This year's recipient of the 1st place prize is Rory MacDonald for his painting "Wetlands"
"Wetlands" 16"x20" acrylic
"Wetlands" (acrylic, 16 x 20") is a familiar scene for us as this kind of landscape exists all over western Canada. We have all seen places like this where wildlife is abundant and there is a feeling of mystery and inaccessibility with the thickness of the marshes. What is it like around that corner? As a painter, the initial "grab" for me was how the light carried through the scene following the water and how the water reflected
the sky. The painting is not particularly colourful but it is fairly true to its original tones.
