Updated: May 11, 2020

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

NANAIMO FINE ART SHOW 2019

The Nanaimo Chapter of the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA) is pleased to present the 4th Annual Nanaimo Fine Art Show at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre. This juried show celebrates the vitality and quality of visual art in Nanaimo and on central Vancouver Island and has become a premier event, attracting both artists and art collectors.

The exhibition is open to FCA ‘Active’ status members from the Nanaimo, Arrowsmith, and Victoria Chapters. As with previous years, the show will also include a separate Signature Member showcase, exhibiting jurors’ work and that of signature-level Nanaimo Chapter members.

This year, the Nanaimo Chapter celebrates its 30th anniversary and anticipates exhibiting as many as 100 new artworks.

The show will run from Friday, November 1st, to Sunday, November 3rd, and will be held in the Conference Centre’s Dodd Narrows room. On the Friday evening, November 1st, at 7 PM, there will be a reception and awards ceremony. Show sponsors, collectors and the public can meet the artists during the Friday evening as well, and a Silent Auction will run all day Friday and Saturday, closing on Saturday at 5 PM.

This year’s jurors are Dene Croft, SFCA and president of the FCA; Leslie Gregory Morgan, SFCA; one more will be confirmed soon. The jurors will award a $500 first-place prize, a $300 second-place prize, and a $200 third-place prize, as well as one honorary award with a $50 value gift certificate from Iron Oxide.

The jurors will also determine three $50 Juror’s choice awards, with a $50 value gift certificate from Iron Oxide. Finally, a $300 People’s Choice (gift certificate from Iron Oxide) award will be chosen by the public.

Paintings accepted must be dropped off at the Conference Centre venue on October 31st, between 9 and 11 AM. You can use the entrance door located on Commercial Street for direct access to the room or use the underground parking.

Entry Guidelines

To enter this exhibition, you must be an Active, AFCA, or SFCA member in good standing with the FCA, Vancouver office, and be in good standing with one of the following FCA chapters: Nanaimo, Arrowsmith, or Victoria. Refer to the renewal links at the end of this document to renew your membership. Artists who are successful at jury, but have not renewed their memberships, will be removed from the exhibition.

Entry sizes are restricted to 40 inches wide without a frame. Height can be greater than 40 inches, but please remember that paintings are being displayed on easels. Please watch the submission tutorial video here if you need assistance with your digital upload. Show submissions are subject to general FCA Submission Requirements, found in the FCA’s policy manual, including wiring, finishing the sides and edges of paintings and having your work ready to hang.

After jurying, submissions will fall into one of two categories:

1. Qualifying - artworks that count towards Signature Status points with the FCA;

2. Non-qualifying artworks declined for display.

Artists are encouraged to submit their most recent artwork. You may submit artwork that has been previously submitted or accepted by the Federation Gallery in Vancouver, or any FCA Chapter show except Nanaimo. All submitted works must be for sale. If a work is purchased by someone during the show and they are unable to pick it up after the show, such works will be taken down and given to buyers during the show. However, all paintings must be in the room until the end of Friday afternoon, as jurying will take place during that afternoon. Artists entering the show agree that photographs of their paintings can be used for future advertisement of this show by the Nanaimo Chapter on its website, in print material and/or on social media.

Entry Fees (up to 3 entries)

- $25.00 CDN for the first entry.

- $10.00 CDN per entry, thereafter, to a maximum of 3 entries.

Hanging Fees (for accepted works)
